It's NaNoWriMo time!

I love NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month). Not because I finish, or even write everyday - but because it normalizes writing.

Now, writing isn't abnormal (well...I mean...) but during November there is more hype, more energy around writing. A LOT of people write during NaNoWriMo. Even those who don't normally consider themselves writers (my boss, the library director is even writing something for nano). It takes writing out of this solitary, angsty, mysterious realm and brings it to the mainstream.

I love that.

My writing has been slow lately. Not for lack of ideas, but for lack of just time and energy (being an adult is hard guys). So Nano is a great time to kick it into gear.

I gave up on "winning" nanowrimo a billion years ago, but there were some goals I wanted to accomplish, and to make sure I accomplished them I started the month off with a little mini writing retreat.

My bff came down and for a weekend, we buckled down, drank a lot of caffeine, ate some snacks, consumed a little bit of alcohol, and we wrote some words!

My goal for the weekend was to rewrite chapters 1-3 of my current project. This is because I have decided to bring in a character a lot later, so I wanted to go back and remove her and either give her actions to another character, or just take them out.

I accomplished that goal pretty quickly, which made me happy.

So, then I started on my weekend retreat stretch goal: Chapter 4 - the Possession scene. This is a pivotal scene in my novel (obviously) and I got the first draft of it done over the weekend so that was awesome, and I'm really really happy with it :)

Nano isn't over, and I haven't written everyday, but I do have a goal. I want to finish Act 1. I don't know how many chapters, or words I need to be able to get that done, and with the holiday, plus a vacation later this month....I don't even know if I can get it done. But I'm going to try.

And if nothing else, I'm going to just feed from the writing energy that this month brings.

Feel free to add me as a buddy on nanowrimo! My username is: bgstrong
