Belated Scary Story Sunday: They Let the Wrong One In

Sorry this is coming at you a day late! I enjoyed a weekend full of bad (good) halloween/scary movies, baked goods, and puppies (not mine...a friends).

Also, I'll be participating in #13days13shorts on Twitter if you want some more halloween themed gooooOOOOoooodies. @_bgstrong

Here is the story for this week! I am going to put the prompt at the end of the story since it is sort of a spoiler!

They Let the Wrong One In

"What kinda person lets their kid play outside, at night, by themselves?"

"I don't know, but she's been out in her yard every night for the last week. She'll be here."

"Are you sure? It's already 8PM. Shouldn't the kid be in bed?"

"She'll be here."

The front door of the two story colonial opened and a young girl with dark hair walked out. Her skin shone in the moonlight. She had a basketball in hand.

"She looks like a porcelain doll."

"I told you!"

"Don't her parents know that beautiful children like that are at risk for getting picked up by strangers?"

"Especially at nighttime." They laughed and pulled their van up closer to the house. They sat and watched the girl toss the ball into the hoop attached to the garage.

"Nice shot."

The girl turned around. She let the basketball roll into her yard.

"My friend and I were going to play some late night ball at the park - wanna join us?"

The girl looked towards her house. "Your parents will be cool with it. We can call them when we get to the park."

The girl, expressionless, walked towards the van, and got into the back seat.

"Well. That was easy."

"I'll say. You think she's got some mental problems or somethin'?"

"Who knows."

They drove for twenty minutes. The girl sat silently in the middle of the back seat, staring out the front windshield.

"Shouldn't she be asking us questions? Or crying for her mommy?"

"I don't know. Maybe we should just leave her by the side of the road."

"We're almost there. At least we don't have to worry about her screaming."

Fifteen minutes later, the van pulled up to a rundown house at the edge of town.

"C'mon little one. We just have to go inside and get our basketball and then we'll head to the park."

The girl got out and stood next to the van."

"Can't you tell us your name or something? You're so quiet."

"Yeah - at least give us a smile."

The girl smiled, showing off her bright white fangs.

Prompt: Kidnappers abduct the child of a vampire.

I get all my prompts from Screencraft.

See you next week!
